I'm new to treasure hunting and I keep seeing the word "clad" used. I have a good idea but I want to know for sure.

Modern coinage which is "clad" or sandwiched together. Pennies post 1982 and dimes and quarters post 1964. Dates before this were solid copper for the pennies and a good percentage of solid silver for the dimes and quarters.MayberryMonte said:I'm new to treasure hunting and I keep seeing the word "clad" used. Truthfully, to me finding a post 82 cent is almost as bad as a poptop. Actually, I would be happier to find a 60's ziptop than another post 82 clad memorial cent.fortbball9 said:might be crap but they all spend (LOL)
I didnt realize that nickels are clad. Are you sure Ivan?ivan salis said:what is clad -- modern day junk coinage -- it spending money not worth saving -- unlike nice wheat cents --old buff nickles and silver coins -- its post 1982 cents (crappy zinc cents) -- post 1939 nickles except the silver WW2 ones --dimes after 1964 --quarters after 64 and halves after 1970
