I was hiking in the Big Cypress Swamp last year in an area no one has been in years, and I found an old, quite large balloon, or parachute, badly decomposed on the ground, all twisted in the vegetation. I followed the cord up through the trees and back to the ground, where I found this package. I cut off the corroded and swollen battery pack, according to instructions on the box, ?and put it in my pocket.
Here is the pics. I thought this might be interesting to someone. Has anyone ever found one of these weather balloons?

RADIOSONDES -- An Upper Air Probe INTRODUCTION The radiosonde is a
balloon-borne
instrument platform with radio transmitting capabilities.

Vaisala radiosondes
Vaisala has been producing and selling radiosondes since 1936,
when the company was founded by Professor V?is?l? on the strength of his first radiosonde.
From 1936 to the present day, Vaisala has steadily introduced new RS-series radiosondes
offering evolutionary improvements in PTU measurement and wind-finding.
Today we offer two radiosonde families, the RS80 and the RS92. For many years,
the RS80 has been the workhorse device of upper-air weather observation around the
world but the modern era in sounding is being measured with the
Vaisala? Radiosonde RS92.
It offers the world?s highest level of PTU measurement performance and continuous wind data availability.

I think I'd Mail It Back With All Informatin I could Give on Where You Were & Why.

And Include Your Name & address.

Maby Even Ask IF They Don't Want It, IF you Could Have it Back.

You Never Know What they May Send ;)

UNLESS you Real, Realy Want it.

It's Apparently a Defunct Device Now , With the RS92 in use

Have handled 2 of these, a long time ago. The first was found by a farmer who called our EMO, asking if it could be radioactive; went out with the rad. monitor equipment to show him it wasn't. The second was on a little-used beach on Lake Erie. Neither one went back, because they only pay for US postage, but letters were sent with location and serial # info.
