What is a great metal detector they i can buy cheap

the bounty hunters are good and cheap but not sure for small gold im lookig too and really you have to get one made for it like gold bug pro or tesro lobo super traq .... i see some Whites MXT on craigs list for about $400 they are good for both .

There is a whites gmx on eBay for $380.00 + s&h

There are no "Cheap" gold nugget hunters. The least expensive is the Tesoro Lobo Super Traq. Good Luck!

The GOldbug 2 is one of the best on the market.it operates om 71 KHZ... keep in mind when you buy a used detector you will not get no warranty on it

I bought an original gold bug for $150.

Regardless of which machine you settle on,I wish you the best of luck on your hunt!!

Either a misunderstanding, or there's fraud involved. Keep a firm grip on your seventy bucks.

[edit] I spent a few minutes cruising ebay. New GB Pros are running mostly around $650, GB2's mostly around $750-800.

Since you're new to gold prospecting, before you spend any money I recommend reading my book "Gold Prospecting with a VLF Metal Detector", available as a .pdf file on both the Fisher and Teknetics websites and also in paperback from some dealers.

Metal detectors capable of finding small gold begin at about $500 new. Used machines with good gold prospecting performance, in good condition, are going to run you at least $250-300 unless you get very lucky. Newbies are usually best off not going the ebay route, it's too easy to get burned or to just plain buy the wrong thing, if you don't know what you're doing. Rule of thumb is to buy from your local dealer if you have one, or from forum sponsors.

I second the notion hang on to your $70 bucks if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.......
Could be that is were the bids are starting and they undoubtedly will go higher.

Look at this eBay listing (251214572125) it's for a whites gmx, this is the bh gold digger (181064547567)

I also bought a eureka for $480,if you look you can find a good deal.
diesel and woof are right on the mark though and I would listen to them.
I did get pretty lucky.

MSRP on the BH Gold Digger is $99. Often discounted, and a good "entry level" machine for coinshooting. Not in any way comparable to a Gold Bug.

If you want to do real gold prospecting with a metal detector, you need three basic things.

1. You need to know what the heck you're doing. The book I recommended earlier is a good starting place.

2. You need a medium to high performance metal detector designed for gold prospecting. A lesser metal detector will beep if you chance to swing it over a large nugget, but large nuggets are rare. If they were common, gold would be $10 an ounce, not $1690.

3. You need to be searching where the stuff is. If there ain't no gold, you ain't diggin' any no matter your skill level or how much you paid for the metal detector.

I have been searching at an old hydraulic mine and it was work as a placer in 1830 it's also a 1/4 mile up the creek of a hard rock drift. I panned and did some sluicing and found fine gold.

How good is the bounty hunter gold digger

I have not used one of these.....if I were you I would shop for a better machine on the used market (craigslist, ebay, classified ads and tn marketplace) I am sure it works ok but for the same money abouts I think you could get a better one used and be much further ahead. Most used detectors seem to be almost new condition .......just my thoughts....
