I have a lot of coins I would like to take pictures of and put them up here, for some of the real experts to look at.
even on the other board on this site what is it or whats it worth etc.

I have a 1958 penny and the top hole on the number eight is filled in

also I have like 6 1955 pennies that have the last 5 doubled also some have some of the letters doubled too.

also I have another 1958d penny that looks like a double die the 1, 5 and 8 look doubled

I have tons of coins that are errors in one way or another that I would like to throw up here from time to time.

You should go to your local best buy store and get someone with experience to help you out.
I went there and tried every single one the MACRO mode. I would put a coin on the counter and see how close it would zoom in while keeping focus. I ended up buying a canon powershot SD 1000. It takes awesome close-up photos of coins. The macro is what you're looking for though. The macro symbol on a camera is usually a flower symbol. My camera was in the ballpark of 200.oo and that was last year. 8) 8)

Or instead of a camera you could go the cheap route and pick up a scanner. If my wife is using the camera I then use the scanner as the quality does seem to be as good for posting on the forums. My wife's camera that I use is a (cannot remember brand) but the model is a Dimage (no longer made) that was around $200 I think when she got it a few years ago.

According to the notes here, to post a picture here the maximum size is 196kb, so if you get a really good camera you will have to resize the pictures prior to posting.

Good Luck,

Scott (Mich)

Here are a couple of close-up photos that I took with the canon. Neither have been magnified and both were resized down to fit the allowed size to put on this site. Using the paint program on your computer makes it real easy to downsize a photo.

I was part of the camera bidness for over 18 years and there are a few dos and don ts. Don't buy too much camera for your needs. If you just want a camera for CRHing and ebay sales, keep the camera under the $150 range. If you plan on taking the camera with you on vacation, put a wee bit more $$$ into it and you and your bride will enjoy the pics from your trips. Most current cameras have tons of resolution for close ups. When you go camera shopping, take a few coins with you as models. The dealer should let you shoot several with each and then bring the images up on the back of the camera to see what you have captured. Most of the current crop of cameras tend to overflash close up. You may have to experiment with diffusing the flash a bit to get just what you want.
As far as scanners go,for 100 bucks you can get a very nice scanner that would do your coins or copy any old photos you might have around. One of the advantages of using the scanner is the total lack of camera shake which ruins most close ups.
Also one last item. Buy your camera or scanner from a dealer who allows returns . If you get that puppy home and you don't like it, you are not going to use it much. Good Luck, Jim

Like scott said you can use a scanner. I get awesome pics of coins from my scanner.

I love my Canon Cameras....hubby broke my other one >:(...(Ok ... it was an accident!)....just went and bought me a new one for $188.00 and change ($199 and change with tax) at BJ's Wholesale Club (you can get the same one at Kmart/Walmart/ etc for anywhere from $199 to $210...after searching the net, I found BJ's to be the cheapest!!)

It's the Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph 7.1 Mega Pixels w/3x Zoom Lens. Here are examples of some pics I took at our Pipsico hunt....this was using the MACRO feature the camera comes with...I LOVE THIS CAMERA and I LOVED the price even more!!!

First pic is the Thimble DCMatt found and the Pottery Piece was the item Kiros32 found....and the Standing Liberty EX2User found....

I use the Cannon PowerShot A430. It has a super macro setting and I like it. If I could just hold my darn hand still enough..You can probably pick one of these up for less than a hundred bucks now. 4 megapixels

Another Canon fan...Power shot A550...got it at staples for 199.00 but you can find it cheaper

I bought a Nikon Coolpix P3 last year around XMas time. 8.1 Megapixel. I think it was a little more costly (around $350 to $400 if I remember right), but I have had good luck with it. Meant for both closeups as well as other pictures.

I have to resize the pictures, but that only takes a few seconds per picture. I use GIMP to do the picture manipulation.

I agree with just about everyone here. I have had 4 Nikons and love them. My current is a Cannon Elph cannot remember the number on it but it is a 4 megapixel camera and it is all I take pictures with to post on the forum. It is also our general use camera for B-Days and everything else.

HP photosmart 850

I have a HP photosmart 850. It’s a few years old. Here is a close up and a desert pic.
