I found this piece of iron near an old homestead or barn dated to the mid 19th century to early 20th century. A cellar hole only a few yards away produced many zinc mason jars and lids and an old ironing iron. Anyway here are the pics, this thing is solid iron with a hole in the center. One edge is half moon shaped and the other is straight. Any ideas?? Also in the cellar hole itself I found this half pint or pint jar. It must date to the same period? Have never seen one but I have pictured all the features. It has mold lines on both sides and though it looks threaded if you look closely you can see it is not a normal thread as the "threads" are interrupted and do not spiral like modern threads. Very curious jar. All the Mason jars around it had the blue tinted glass but this smaller jar is obviously clear.

The jar is a jelly jar and they're made with multiple threads even today. Here's a picture of one with the lid so you can see how it attaches.skool 214.jpg

The bottom of the jar shows the Owens Illinois trademark with a mold # 26, used to identify in case of a defective mold.

I'm thinking the iron is a balance weight from a scale- not sure tho.
