OK, I don't even know where to look to figure this one out.

The Pins between the metal look to be of Brass or Copper.

It's the connector end for a sucker rod(pump jack rod) The open end held a wooden shaft. They could be fastened end to end depending how deep the well was. Used in water wells, on wind mills. and even in oil wells.

I'll be back on that end of the knoll tomorrow. I'll have my mini digger up here tomorrow and then this weekend I'm going back to the new park I found and walk the creek to see if thar's gold in them there... uh, rocks. :)
