Re: What I find I don't know what it is?

Country Girl....from that angle it looks to be a button....the 4 holes would be against the garment where it was attached. If I had to guess, I'd bet it came off a sweater (cardigan style). Those sweaters aren't buttoned up much and buttons are mostly for a decorative appearance. Can you post a pic from the opposite side?

CG, I can see that it's Abraham Lincoln on the front, not sure of the writing below it. The wording on the back says United States of America and Liberty. I tend to think it's a private issue of a commemorative type. There may be other presidents made and distributed as well. JMO

Thanks Michelle that is it!

Stoney it says 16th president, and 1861-1865 Abraham Lincoln. I agree on the commemorative part, any idea on age? Value?

Gawd, I can't believe I'm as old as I am. Those little bells were everywhere 40-50 years ago. We called them jingle bells. The holes were for sewing them on thing. Very popular at Christmas. Sew 8-10 on a strip of leather or cloth and you had Christmas jingle bells. Or slip a shoestring through two of the holes and you had bells for your shoes. They weren't very sturdy, and a lot of times the little ball bearing inside would slip out and the jingle would be gone. I thought they were still in use. ???

So it did have a little dinger in it! Shoot I probably washed it down the sink! I thought it was a cool little bell button, maybe I'll find some more and tie them on my sneakers. I have never seen them, you think they still use them? Thanks

Country Girl,
I would think that you could still find them at a fabric shop or maybe a hobby/craft store. -Noodle

The forward-facing portrait is quite similar, but Country Girl's find (below) is a token/medal and has different details.

Thanks PBK, I thought it was a medal or token also, can't find a match for the back though. Most had a saying, not the eagle and United States of America. Thanks for the help.

They used to be common on pet collars at one time, too. Especially cat collars, to keep the cats from being able to catch birds. I thought I'd seen them much more recently than you but I just realised it was 30-40 years ago for me too!
