This Japan binocular case was brought back from the war and has the writing as shown on the lid. Wondering if anyone can determine what it might say....thanks.

names would be in Kanji I believe, and this looks like katakana and hiragana to me.
here is what my son says...
The writing is messy and I am pretty sure it wasn't written by a Japanese person, but rather someone who was trying to write in Japanese.
It might be a name, but if so, it's a strange one. Possibly someone trying to transliterate a name into pronounceable characters.
るちばっと = Ruchibatto (no idea what name that could be trying to be)
ぽうーた = Pouta (possibly pronounced "Pohta" -- maybe a last name of "Porter"?)
For example, using the same type of script, the name "Joshua" would be じょしゅあ, which sounds like "Jyo shu a" ... so you can see that the pronunciation of some names come across better than others.
hope this helps...maybe the OP can look at those words/sounds and find meaning.
will your son be looking for work in Japan?.... It is an American man's paradise
