Recently I was at the beach detecting in a rough surf and my water walkers filled with sand. I've rinsed them out three times and they still have sand in them. I don't like sandals and do not want to step on any recently uncovered nails or a piece of aluminum. So what is everyone else wearing Sandles, water walkers dive booties or your bare feet ! what works and what does not? Thanks for your time R/Mike

I know I shouldn't, but I go barefooted. Have been since about my second or third water hunt. Those cheap shoes don't cut it at all. I have hopes and aspirations of buying some dive boots, but that will be later. Might get them in conjunction with a wet suit, which I will inevitably need as the water is starting to get cold.

I am always kicking my scoop and after a couple hours in the water my feet get soft so I have to wear something.

I wear something like this.

If you live near a Wally world they are getting rid of all of their stock and I got mine for a buck. They do get sand in them but one walk out into the water and it goes away.

In the warm season I use what is called water-moc they are water tennies that have drain holes in the bottom and sides. They still get sand in them, but it seems to drain out pretty good. I have hardsole water boots for the winter water.

I am considering trying out a pair of Crocs.....

It's been a few years since I've done any waterhunting, but I used lace-up canvas deck shoes. An alternative would be canvas high-top tennis shoes; the retro style, not the newer jogger styled shoes. Those canvas shoes can be tossed in a washing machine to clean, then hung outside to dry.

These were also called, Waffle-Stompers. ;D

wasted much ammo

many years i have spent much ammo on the perfect shoe

for me, i have never found it, but i was close once

one of my hunting buddies wears these attack shoes by NRS - he likes them, i have never bought any of these to try.

some pics of my attemps to find "THE SHOE" - now the ones i did really like, and they worked the best of any, were dive boots that i cut holes in, but after some use, the broke apart, but while together, man they were the tickets - looked strange

so, for the last 2 years, i have discovered Crocs and have not looked for anything else............Crocs Flip Flops that is

two 2 cents worth

GD I did not see your post until now, like those NRS shoes! Also "the shoe" is pretty cool not sure about the croc's though I will give them a looking over, as usual well though out and nice pictures !!

MT thanks again for the info on the socks.

I appreciate everone Else's input except Stevo's (I ain't wearing those!!)

LOL Mike

Hey, Gravedigger. How about some "Ho Che Mien Sandals"? Those soles cut from tire treads would be tougher than those rubber ones in your photos. ;D You could even make your own. Some" Boonie Rats" in 'Nam would and then trade them to REMFs for booze and money. :icon_pirat:

Heres mine, thick felt sole, and some ankle support. shaka Mikey

Have to agree with MT pockets, i have used those searays for the last 3-4 years, great ankle support and arch support. Plus with the traction sole it really digs in to help you move or just stay put in wave action.

It will only take one fish hook/ rusty can/broken glass to make you a believer.

I have the 7mm thick dive booties and wear them year round.

Aloha I think these are the best water shoes money can buy.

Aloha I got these NRS water shoes about 5 months ago and they are the most comfortable ones that I have owned. I tried 3 different ones and these I think are the best. I wear socks with them and fold the sock tops over the shoes and no sand gets in. The soles have a lot of grip on the rocks and makes digging easier. This is the web site for them. http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.asp?pfid=2335&deptid=1169
