I just found a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 with the Bonus pouch,digging tool and 4 inch coil. It was 179.99.new in box. It seemed like an awesome deal. But I'm new to this. What do you guys think. He said he would hold it until tommorrow. Should I buy this. Would it be good for me as anewbie.

If that is your price range, there is nothing wrong with it. In fact i was wondering if you got it at WalMart. They have the best return policy if there is anything wrong with it.

that is an awesome deal, at walmart it is over $300.....go for it, Bounty Hunters are good detectors, I found a lot with mine, and it was just a Pioneer EX

Some Bounty Hunters are OK, the 505 id not. You'll soon wrab it around a tree. Get yourself a Garrett 250 ACE and it is a great machine for a new comer. There are many others that are good too.

I am sorry to hear people are still shopping at Wal Mart.

i agree with sandman, for $20 more get the ace250. the user reviews on this machine speak for themselves. all of those people cant be wrong.............and their not!

I beg to differ on this view of the Wal Mart machines. I had a version made for Radio Shack and found many old coins and 1 gold coin. Now if the machine is purchased already. It is time to use it and make back some of the spent money. Only 1/3 rd of the success people have hunting is the machine. If the starter of this thread wishes. I will tutor them in the use of there machine to make some finds. They will, if they continue in this hobby, upgrade when they are ready. So is the machine already purchased?

Do some homework dont be in a big hurry and buy something because its cheap. There are plenty of detector reviews on the internet, look at HTTP://www.djsdetectors.com. or HTTP://metaldetectorreviews.net also ask around at detecting clubs see what the people in your area favour. The treasure ace 250 is a cheaper machine but it has its limitations. If you want a machine that can be used on the beach in salty moist conditions, or highly mineralised ground the treasure ace is not good. What ever machine you decide on make sure it is suitable for the area you want to detect.You could be better off getting a better quality detector second hand for the same money, but only do this with a warranty from a recognised detector dealer. If I were looking for
good all round, park , beach and relic machine secondhand I would look at Minelab Sovereign , Whites xlt. or Tesoro cibola but it depends on cost.

the bounty hunter is a good deal for that price . my brother has one along with a couple of friends .I also have a low end bounty hunter and I have been doing this for over twenty years .and over the years I have used all the high end ones to and that 505 will compete with all of them .I have also seen those guys that put them down and have the high end detectors miss just as much .

im still new at this as i just bought my detector 3 days ago..... it was also a BH 505.... but i didnt get as good of a deal as you can get .. i paid full price ($300) for mine..... im still leqarning the machine BUT i have found 3 coins, an old cigarette box and a silver blob....BTW the 3 coins are all 3 wheats 1940, 1944, and 1952...... like i said i am still new and cant give a review yet or give a comparison to any other type of detector but i have had pretty good luck so far with the 505... good luck and happy hunting

I decided not to get it. I wanted a Ace 250 from the beginning. So I decided I should not settle on something I don't really want for 20-30 dollar difference. Should be able to get the Ace in a couple of weeks .

I have heard great things about the ace 250 and I dont know how it compares the whites prizmIII but I can tell you I have been very happy with my prizm III, just recently purchased a new XLT and didnt trade my prizm in if that gives you any idea how much I liked it.
