What do you think this is

Found this at a old house built in 1843 there was a civil war camp near by at one time. I hav a Idea of what it may have been but thought some one may know for sure. It looks to be made of copper and is 2 3/4in by 2 1/4in. Thanks for looking.

Looks like one of grandmoms hat pins from way back.

I don't think it was a hat pin. It is heavy and had a solid strap of copper across the back that fell off when i dug it. I was thinking it may have been a decorative piece on a saddle or bridal for a horse. Any other ideas?

Maybe a sash buckle. Would just hold sash together around the waist.

Yes it looks to be solid copper. I still do not know for sure what it is pretty cool though. If any one knows or wants to take a guess it would be appreciated. Thanks
