Very interesting,
Have you walked this area?
At least to see if there are visible signs on the ground for a person on foot or horseback to follow?

Yes, there are trails - also, these two features are very distinctive -appears to be encampment sites - long term...I'm thinking a ship was driven into the cove during a storm and became grounded in the shallows - the features shown would have taken many months/years to build perhaps?

This is a great thread.. It does look man made to me. Entirely too weird a coincidence. When are you going?

I've got more research to complete on this site before doing any work there. Close up of the anchor feature reveals possible ballast stones but they are not in piles as would be expected.

Having lived in Spain for many years, I noticed that the locations of the crosses and stone plies looked familiar - this might be just my imagination, but they somewhat match the respective locations of major spanish cities and towns that would have been important in the 15th-16th Century. In particular, the anchor feature cannot be mistaken for anything other than a marker and Cadiz in southern Spain was a very important Spanish port on the Atlantic - and of course Sevilla where the treasure galleons off-loaded.

Very good thread. I use botany in my searches. This shows a good use of forage. I only have one question, how would they locate this from the air? Do you suppose the Spanish did this with other areas they were at. Using what ever was at their disposal? I guess they could plot it.

Distance from top large cross to anchor feature is about 2,000 ft - could they see that far from the crows nest? - possibly...

If those are ballast stones perhaps they off loaded them to lighten the ship to get off the bar. Quite fascinating and thank you.

Not seeing them go to that effort if stranded. I would think they would have enough to do to stay alive year round.
Perhaps something else was going on there. They were involved with both early wars I "think"
But who knows.

I am still enthralled.. keep us up to date please.
