reminds me of a hellgap, go look for more lol

When you guys say Hell Gap... Is that the shape of it that you are referring to? I'm trying to look it up & that is my conclusion so far.

Oops, someone already replied...
I guess a trade was always a possibility, you're right about that Kathy.

 RR

1) Very pretty relic, LbL ! :headbang:

2) I suspect that what you found was originally a knife, rather than a projectile point. The square edge of the base makes it not unlikely that it was originally hafted (set into a handle) and snapped off in use.

Love the stripes in the piece. Nice one.

Congratulations on your find. You're in an area that is capable of producing Hell Gap points, but I don't think the flaking is right to be one. There are several types that are similar from your area. Are the sides ground?

Hmm, could you explain what you mean by ground? They are not real sharp but I imagine that over time they have dulled.

Go down to the end that is broken.Rub your fingers from the broken end up to where it begins to expand. Many early points (Paleo and Archaic) were intentionally ground in the basal or hafting area.I think it was done to prevent the sharp edges from cutting whatever was used to bind it to a shaft or handle.I really like the material it's made of.

OK, I can feel a difference or the power of suggestion LOL, but really I do feel a difference, what does that tell us then? And what do you think it is made from?

I don't know the materials from that area enough to give a good answer. There's lots of banded materials out there. Is it translucent when you hold it up to the light?

No, it's not translucent at all, very opaque.
