I would say that is a scraper because it is worked all the way around. Scraper or blade, you can't go wrong. Is it obsidian? It has a purple tint that may be caused by the background. It is beautiful!!

Brilliant! Just Brilliant!

First Photo; Beautiful knife with what appears to be a scraper edge in the bottom of the picture.

Thanks guys.....it is pretty because it's so clear, almost sparkles.....yes obsidian....and no..not really lavender :( just more see through. :)

I say that I like it. From a tool perspective I have to guess knife(sorry N.C).. I envision a cutting action like my fleshing knifes I use to skin with. It would probably do any job and it is as he said very beautiful. Amazing workmanship to see thru:notworthy:
Ok keep looking at the base…… and it does look like the work of a thumb scraper on it. Tell us is the base(wide end) sharp?

I use this one as a reference it looks as if the end was broken then reworked rounded over in a similar shape plus it was in the knife drawer haha.

....yes Tn... the base of it is sharp, like it was made that way on purpose. It does look the same shape as yours, only a little narrower & you must have a very interesting "knife" drawer! lol So, they did make "knives" like that after all, cool...and thanks! :)

Oh wait now. I could be way wrong and would not call it solved just yet. There are a lot of great opinions on here. I learn often and get schooled much. Haaa

TN you know you don't have to apologize to me... Ever!! We're buddies! On second look I see where you are coming from. I think you may have been correct calling it a blade. It looks like both faces have rather detailed flaking. A scraper normally has one face with little to no work on it. Like I posted earlier, scraper or blade, you can't go wrong. Great artifact I think we all agree.

was wondering ???... how they would use such a piece without getting cut up. Obsidian is sharper than most flints. Kinda like using a razor blade with four sharpened sides. Nice artifact miss kat! :icon_thumright:

good looking piece, Kat

Thank you so much everyone for helping me here :) So Tn...looks like they're agreeing with your "blade/knife" idea after all, it sure reminded me of one. And yes, we're always learning, thank goodness! That's a good question outlaw...maybe they had "gloves" lol....or at least a little piece of leather maybe...or were just very careful :O !

Or maybe... they just bled a lot!!! LOL

Or maybe they just ground down or dulled necessary areas.

I would agree on a scraper and a damn fine one beautiful piece !!!!!

That is a very nice little chunk of Obsidian. At first I thought knife, or multi-tool, but after looking at it three or four times now I think it may be a hafted scraper. The larger end looks like it may have a steep edge for scraping and the small end for hafting. If the small end is ground or shows any sign of being hafted it may be an end scraper. Not sure it matters what the exact use was, we all agree its a killer find. Thanks for the view.

....thanks for enjoying it everyone...they probably did get cut a lot AB ! And most likely did have to smooth a "safe" spot quito...but it is Purdy though :) Question I've been meaning to ask if anyone knows....is it easier or harder to make an arrowhead with obsidian or rock?
