I got a bunch of "good stuff" over the weekend from an estate sale and I need help on a bowl that was part of the pile of stuff I bought. It still needs cleaning but I did rub a small spot of it with silver cleaner and it cleaned up pretty good. It is a silvery colored coating painted or applied to the outside of this bowl. Here is a pic-

Anybody familiar with this? I'll talk about the rest of my goodies tonite, I gotta run, gotta a job to do. Thanks.

Is the silver real metal? If so it may be a piece by Dorothy Thorpe.

Well, I just put my detector up to it, it reads in the nickel range 24-25 versus 100+ for silver items. I think I know what you mean by real metal and the answer is no. I mean it's obviously metal but it's more like it has been painted or applied some other way versus an actual piece of metal being attached to it. Also it is "applied" on the surface of the glass and not sealed between layers like mercury glass is. :icon_scratch: :help:

no markings on the bottom ?

Reminds me of something I saw on Antique roadshow
Last Night

But that was marked

I think that's called "silver overlay".
I think Cambridge made some pieces like yours(It was Depression Era glass).
