I found this "whats it" yesterday i found one about 8 yrs ago too problem is........
i knew what they were called an now i don't remember i did'nt put it in my reference book :(
i remember it was part of a wagon this one is 4 " long and was 1/2" ? and now is 7/16" wide

It is a toggle,used to secure almost anything, slip a bowline through the loop and tie it off , then slip a bowline overthe ears , run that line to a bight around whatever you wish to anchor or move slack off and a quick disconnect. Bob

Here is a similar item on the end of a dog lead in my 1895 Montgomery Ward Catalogue .

I have found them around old farms. I think they have something to do with hooking up mules to farm equipment.

ALABEAR thats where i found the one yesterday an old farmhouse 6 ft. from the road

It's part of a "trace chain",one at each end of the chain used to secure a wagon.....Could be CW!!

Thats the word i was looking for civilman1 :thumbsup: trace chain also called a toggle i was
just told they were used to adjust the tension on a horses neck my friend who celebrates his
76th birthday tomorrow gave me this information and he's going to show me a few of his examples
next time we get together
