What do ya'll make of this rock?

This wierd rock was pulled from about 4 inches down in a local county park.

It appears to be non magnetic, and does not seem to be affected at all by high heat ( does not melt,bend,etc.)

*** Update- I performed a streak test on the raw underside of a toilet tank lid, and this rock does leave
a definite, red-brownish color streak.

This rock, whatever it is, is VERY VERY hard, not brittle by any means. It does not seem possible
to be able to break even a small piece of it off ! Trust me, I used a dremel tool, fitted with a cutting
attachment, and barely was able to cut into it using extensive force.

Any ideas?

A hot rock I think...Hematite?
Do the typical tests...(If you know how else I'll fill ya in )
streak
hardness
luster (Adamantine, sub-metallic, metallic etc)
fracture

and so on.

I am just an arrowhead hunter, I find a lot of rock like that looks like it anyway, called Hematite. Is it pretty heavy for its size? Hematite also if rubbed on another rock will leave a red mark. Its a very hard stone. Hematite is natural Iron ore, The native Americans used it for paint,axes, hammer stones, plummets, pendants etc . They would rub it on other stones until they had a little powder off of it mix that with water, You have red paint. I'm not sure that's what that is by the pic. I do have plenty of examples that look similar. John

I believe the above two posters are correct. Hematite

Looks like kidney ore .Kidney Ore is the massive botryoidal form and gives the appearance of lumpy kidney-like masses.

get a diamond blade wet saw and cut it open, or get a diamonded tipped drill bit and drill a whole through it.
