If you would Believe GPAA
it is worth more as it is.

BTW, she also found about three more when she was out lookng for crystals and told me where it was in case I am "into gold".

Even though it has been cut?

Yea I Would think so.
Some actually Cut Polish & Turn them into
Paper weights Or Jewelry & Charge a Premium.

what you should do is have somone
who can Measure it's Mass
Figure how much it would weigh without the Gold
then Estimate how much gold is still There.

Then decide if you could get more for the Gold
then it's worth as a Sample or ?

thank you for the replies. The pictures don't even come close to showing how much is on this rock. There are tinly little veins all over it that don't show up in the pics.

I've been hunting gold 17 years, and have yet to find a piece of high-grade ore like that! As a rough idea of value as it is would be the weight right now multiplied by spot price of gold, and that would be just for starters! It could be more valuable than that! Man, I got to start swinging my gold detector around some of those old hardrock mines instead of old hydraulic pits like I've been doing. I'd leave it as is, maybe if I decided to keep it I might polish the cut side. It sure looks like gold in the pictures! :hello2: :hello2: :headbang: :headbang:
P.S. I've seen other specimens go for 3 times spot price and higher!

Above is the link to the Original Sixteen To One mine website. They have some quartz-gold for sale to help get an idea of how valuable your rock can be. There is one "rock" at 50 ounces selling for $79,000 for example.

Quartz-gold piece with drill hole link $79,000 http://www.origsix.com/news.asp?id=319

Finding the specific gravity of it would help get an idea how much actual gold it has in it too. There is a guy in mariposa on the forums by the handle of grubstake that may help to find someone to find gold content without any crushing.

Thank you all for the replies. I will call the guys at 49er mining supplies in Columbia to see if they can recommend someone to help find the gold content.

if i was you i would go find the rest of the rocks that lady was telling you about get them locked up and get back out there with a md and start listening for more

If you lose interest you could send me the gps coordinates ;D

If you are into gold! Holy Cats. Looking for crystals and does not want the gold, not a far thinking lady I would guess.

Jeff

i'd trade some nice crystals for those!!!!

Very nice specimen Dunc, definitely worth going to where that came from and sampling, get the surrounding clay too.
Mike I have to disagree with your formula....the overall weight rock and all x spot? No,there is a formula but thats not it.If that were true I would be retired and on my own island!!#2 specimen gold is NOT selling right now at all, prices are way too high, the market never is really that strong anyway,as said the value is in what someone will pay, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We cant get a 22 ounce solid piece sold right now,and I am sitting ere looking at a box of HIGH GRADE that the buyers wont touch either.
As far as crushing it I would not it does have value as is,just not what you may think. Rob at 49er might know

I haven't even really thought about the value much. I really want to crush it but am not going to if its a bad idea. The property is located in calaveras county and I haven't even looked at my map yet to find out if its okay to poke around there. The lady i spoke to said she got some kind of permit to take crystals from there.

If you want to run it through Daves crusher let me know, but be sure thats what you want to do first.Check around feel the market out,you wont get the gold out of it one would think. If she had to get a permit it is probably on public land, but thanks for wanting to check and see if it is or not,you dont want to get into trouble :thumbsup:Did you find some cons for your daughter?

No, I still want to get her some. Also, this isn't gold on this rock. Sure looked like it though. Guess I got a little ahead of myself.
