Picked this up at a house yesterday. Found a few wheats and a buffalo nickel, but nothing older than that. It appears that it might be lead. I don't have a ruler with me, but it's approximately the length of two quarters. Two of its legs are broken off.

Any help would be great!

Will it stand up on its own?

I'm not sure how stable it would be it if had all of its legs. The one remaining back foot it flat on the inside, and sort of thin like a knife blade where it would come in contact with the table. You can see it a little in the pics. It almost looks as if it straddled something as the underside looks to have a relativey flat pathway as seen in the 2nd pic.

I agree with texastee; although credit too, to ole-grisley, who's age we are now all aware of ;D

However, while I found a few pics of examples of games, where the horse and rider are very similar to testing 123's find, they are all mounted on a central post, which travels around the track.

For example

I do recall seeing a game at a fair when I was a kid in the 60's :o where the horses ran in a straight line and from memory, not on a post, so possibly this find is from that form of game

Cheers, Mike

Worth mentioning as a "possible" candidate is one of the lead horses belonging to a ...

"Ascot Horse Racing Game"

These Ascot games were very popular and made between 1880 and 1920. There are multiple variations of both the game itself and the lead horses used. There are four horse ~ six horse ~ and eight horse variations. The horses themselves vary in that some appear to be hollow, while others are solid lead. All of them had some kind of loop string attachment on the horse's chest. But even these attachments varied, with some appearing to be part of the cast, while others appear to be part of a small rod that "protrudes" from the chest. In any event, here are some pictures and a couple of links to make some comparisons.

Hey trikikiwi--I remember the same horse racing game also. Didn't you roll a ball that went into one of several rings, each with a different value, and the horse moved according to the points from the ball? I think the operator could control it as the buxom dolly bird almost always won. And what was the prize? Someone one found one a couple of weeks ago: A "bronze" horse. And you could trade in 2 smaller ones for the next size up, and again and again. The ultimate price was a 12 inch horse with a clock in it's bellyon a base with 2 pens, or similar. Is that how you remember it??
