what did I find?

I found this on the banks of a creek below some confederate civil war trenches. No idea what it is? anyone seen anything like this? I was able to get the crust off with some water pressure. Not sure what metal it is, but a magnet sticks to it just fine.

Reminds me a rotting battery core... these were made of carbon with a copper core.

what are the dimensions?

Is the color really blue as shown in image 1 & 3 or is that the background reflecting?

The blue color is the background reflecting light. It seems to be all metal and the exposed side in the picture is the same color as the rest of the piece. the different colors are a trick of the flashlight i was shining on it
