I recently re-caught the arrowhead hunting bug that I had as a kid. I've been spending a fair amount of time hunting on my property here in Massachusetts and have found a few nice points over the past few weeks. I unearthed this this morning and I'm not sure what it is. It certainly seems to be worked stone but what exactly is it? Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a sweet blade or scraper! I'm going with blade! Nice find and welcome to TNET!

My thought was knife as well but I wanted to check with some people who know more then me.

Can anyone recommend a good reference book on Native stone tools? I can tell a point from a rock but it would be good to really know what I'm looking at.

Great site you guys have here by the way. I'll post pics of the other stuff I've found in a bit.

I use overstreet for I.D's but I know a lot of people up here don't like his books

Thanks everyone. Here's what I've found over the past few weeks.

Welcome! That is one roughly worked piece. As mentioned afore, most likely a preform.

You also have a nice little quartz triangle point, too bad the tip is broke. :icon_thumright:

Yep, it's rough all right but still has a good edge on it which is cool. I really like the larger black triangle point on the left and the knife in the top center of the photo. The pic really doesn't do it justice. It's remarkably sharp.

All of those look like nice ones to me. I like some of the rough looking pieces cause it amazes me as to how in the world they used them. I am sure there is a killer some place and you will probably find it soon. The bottom one looks like a Madison. Welcome to Tnet, rock
