What country is this tapestry from?

small tag stuck on underside reads "713505"

Thank you! I'm trying to find anything like it on the web. I called it a tapestry because of the needlework but it is actually a bit more like a thin quilt or cover. Not stiff like a tapestry. Even after owning it some 20 yrs and having it hanging on the walls of my dorm rooms and apartments it still has a very distinctive scent to it - spicy/musky. I wonder how old it is.

well maybe just a little - but that was a long time ago

I think maybe the scent is in the fabric from when it was in Persia.

Look no further for something like it on the web. I saw the post heading and for some reason decided to have a look. Imagine my surprise!

I too have had something like this for years that hung in dorm rooms, apartments, etc. It's a bit larger and faded from machine washing, but very similar. Same type of construction, looking at the back as well.

What do we have here? Prayer rugs of some kind? They seem too large for that. Anyone?

Yes I would say the similarities between our items is striking. Got a little laugh over you using it the same way as decor.

I'm trying to recall way back how I got it - my mother used to run an estate sale company and my memory is that it was leftover from after the sale and she ended up giving it to me. I might ask her if she remembers - but I would be surprised if she does.
