What could this be?

Found this item while surface hunting a native hunting camp in southern Nevada where I have found several points. Appears to be shaped, but I’m still scratching my head as to what it can be. Maybe not even an artifact?

looks worked by a frustrated flint knapper and then tossed to the ground. Lots of steps in the rock and still has lots of cortex.

Maybe it served its purpose well enough the owner was satisfied and used until it was lost to the ages. Then you picked it up.

WAY too thick to be a preform. Ad hoc tool &/or flake core, IMHO.
