I found this rusty - old - dirty - object in the woods behind my home. There had been a large farm in the area but I have also found relics that are from the 18th Cent.

This one for me is a mystery so if you have any idea give me a reply.

I started with my Fisher F2 just about 18 months ago so I am new to the hobby.

This thing is at about 4.5 ounces. Pictures will show scale with the key I put in. Lots of thick rust. Top hole is smaller than bottom.

Thanks very much folks.

Yea it looks like you have found an iron hook off of a singletree mule harness

The black and silver item is an ignition key to an old Chevrolet car, probably dating to 2000 to 2013.

My knowledge about these sorts of things is really quite limited, but I fail to see how this would serve as a singletree hook if there is no means for it to swivel.

There are many types of singletree tips.
They do not swivel / spin, just have to move around a bit. The chain can do that on the hook .
Some tips are for leather some are for chains.
The last pic is leather strap type.

I was using pivot in the context of being able to swing or pivot. Personally, I do see that the hook shown provides that mechanism.
Also, the size of it looks prohibitively small for that application .. barely the size of a car key.

kuger; Thanks for the answer and quick response. My guess was in the ballpark ( farm implement ) but I just couldn't narrow it down. It was found at about 6 to 10 inches.

I have 1.5 acres on what was a 100 year old Farm in western Pa - lots of Iron.

Seems like I'm I found a great site and some great people to help me out. You will most likely hear from me again.

Thanks very much,

John S

Great pictures and thanks for all the work you put into finding an answer for me.

Being that there was a 100 acre farm where I now live in western Pa, I'll bet I can find lots more.

I'm hoping for a silver 20 cent piece.

Thank you very much, you have been a great help.

I just buried the key in my back yard next to an old aluminum can.

At barely 2 inches long, I'm still curious as to what it is?
