Found this little nugget at a construction site that has been producing a gamut of relics, old hardware, CW relics, etc. It feels like lead almost, maybe a wee bit lighter. Can't tell if there is a design on it but it looks like it was hand fashioned for something. Any clues?

Bevel gears? Just Googled bevel gears and I don't think so. Some of the relics I have found here look like they could have been in a fire. Someone on Instagram suggested maybe a bake seal but I don't know.

I have to agree. Gears on the back, still in some sort of bracket /cover?

sent from a potato...

Sure is puzzling.Flat on the front except for that protrusion on the bottom which corresponds with the little dot in the middle of the back of the object. I'm taking it to the next Middle Tennessee Metal Detecting Club meeting to mull it over.

The first picture looks like it face's down. fitting between two other gears. The second one looks like you would turn the gears by hand or with a tool. It also looks like someone has been beatting on it. But what would you turn is the question that's my guess.

Yeah reminds me of a windup pinion or bevel gear for a toy car.
