What can anyone tell me about this key?

Photo needs resizing. But from what I make out it looks a lot like a railroad lock key. Can you get a better photo or Scan it? Are there any markings on it? And welcome to the Tnet!!

I was told by a museum that it is an 18th century chest key. Its a barrel type key found at the location of a famous buried treasure.

Is the handle solid or curved open? In the picture it appears the handle end is rather flimsy.
I very well could be an older key but detail is just too fuzzy for me to read. Sorry.

I was going to suggest a key to a watchman's clock...but I don't think they were around 200 years ago :-\
