Found this hunting last week. It's a gold pendant, true enough, but what could the 'stones' set in it be? They're black. :P Thats about all I can tell you. :D Not very attractive. No shine to them at all. :icon_scratch: Anyone know?

N-40 I just about fell out of my seat when I saw that orange car. It look like some I had in the early to mid 50's. Should be made from lead. I play with mine so much that the tires started to flaten out. Thanks for post. D.D. Oh on that gold item you might want to take it to a jeweler and ask about the setting. It does look like an odd way to set stones. D.D.

Nana ... aka SHIC ...

I personally do not think that those are stones or the original "whatever" was in there ...

They look like at one time they were "puttyish" the way they "mold" around the back ...

Not like a true stone would be set ... they are not sitting in the setting with the prongs holding them in place ...

:icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:

I will investigate ~ Nicky ... :-*

Nana - Nick makes a pretty good point. If you look closely (I'm going from the pic), it does actually look as if the tops of the prongs have been cut off completely. If you look at it with a magnifier can you see anything that resembles "cut lines" on the tips? :dontknow:

I think they're gallstones. What a keepsake that is. I'm having my bunions bronzed and mounted on an anklet for my wife. Dang! I can’t wait for Christmas morning. ;D

Maybe marcasites? Marcasite is a form of pyrite and is susceptible to oxidation, chemical reaction, etc.

Could they have been pearls? Natural pearls would have had the layers wear off over time & the middles would have looked strange. Cultured pearls may have even had some sort of putty looking stuff in the centers. From one of your photos each stone looks like it could have been round like a pearl & not faceted like a stone.

Also, I could envision the heart filled with little pearls...........

EWWWWW! FRY! :D

I think those are much to pretty to be what's in that heart, PBK. :-\ Could they possibly look that bad after being in the ground?

Seeds? I've never heard of seeds being used in jewelry, Daddy. :D But heck if they don't! I did see some little black seeds on that web site though! Thanks for the link!

Thanks, Nicky!

Cru...I had typed that very thing this morning on my reply and thought you all would think I was blonde if I posted it! :D So I deleted it. :P :D No kidding though. I really wondered the same thing. Do pearls break down if they're buried in the ground? Anyone know? Most of them are round, by the way. Thank you for posting the question! :)

Thanks for helping me on this one.
Nana :)
