I bought these at a garage sale about 10 years ago, and have not found anything out about them. My friend who is an avid collector of silver stuff, has no idea what they were used for, she has never seen a mark like what is on these pieces. They are either plated or are unmarked sterling. One of them weighs in at 98.7 grams, and the other at 94.7 grams. We have not been able to find these items anywhere (pictures) we can only guess that one was a sugar bowl holder, but the other has a spoon cradle also, if that is true, then when did they start ladling cream? I have included very detailed pics of marks, please help........NGE

Just a guess but they look like holders for coffee cups. Kinda like a handle for drinking out of a cup thats too hot to hold onto.

Some type of tea pot trivet? Place to hang a spoon and/or tea bags?

That`s my S.W.A.G. of the day.

There's a ton of epns stuff on line...I gave up.

It does look somewhat like a cup and saucer holder set, where the saucers sat in the lower, circular area, but the cups hung from six hooks, 3 on either side.

Maybe your is similar in nature. Maybe yours had bowls in the base and those arms held ladles??? Soup bowl and ladle set but the loose components are missing? Just a guess...

From everything I was looking at, yours has more of an appearance of being hand made, as opposed to machined ones.

Could be a collectable...

EPNS absolutely stands for Electroplated Nickle Silver as Glenn stated. I think the items are probably to set some sort of jelly jar or condiment into. The things sticking up at the back are to rest a knife on, note the one rounded rest for the handle, and the slot for the blade. Neat items.

Item in the back held a spoon or fork, It had a bowl or a dish to hold what ever.

They are cheese servers. The plate holding the cheese is missing ( most likely wooden) and the cheese knife. The knobs in the front are for holding the server steady when cutting and in the back is the holder for the knife.

My first post on this outstanding forum.
