these two pieces were hooked together when I dug them and broke apart out of the hole, I do not think they are book markers, I thought they were some sort of hair piece as well, but what do I know...lol
that is why I posted them!

I can see the bookmark suggestion. How were the pieces connected when found? Is on piece missing some at end? One piece got 5 ridges compared 4 on the other.

you see the bottom piece and how it has a thinner piece on it, the top one had that as well and it was attached to the other one, not sure if I am making any sense here or not, ok I took a pic to explain what I mean, when found they were hooked together like top pic here, but they were folded over like the bottom pic, when I tried to straighten them a bit they broke.

So the pieces were identical. The top piece had a tongue and the buttom piece had 2 more ridges. If a hair piece I would think they were to be used together :dontknow: Could be two book markers just clipped together.

Here's a different idea... candy/chocolate serving tongs?

Sometime last year chocolate serving tongs were identified on this forum. Back at the turn of the 20th century, a box of chocolates came with disposable serving tongs so the ladies didn't get melty chocolate on their fingers. They were thin metal and typically ornate, often with the candy maker's name on them.

I can't find a pic right now but there was one on the "Shark Pit" thread that identified the item last year.

Just trying to give this thread a new direction...

Was thinking about that this morning.
They were sent in the box like that you had to fold them to use them.
There were even diagrams in the box to show how to fold them.

Slapping forehead saying "Shoulda thought of that".

Nice catch Matt.

He said it broke. All one piece, not two.

I like the chocolates for the teacher idea.

If anyone has time to search the Best of the Sharkpit finds: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,42179.0.html

If one piece instead two pieces maybe it was a napkin ring. A guest name card could be inserted in the ring.
