US Coast Guard Buoy Lantern, A.K.A. "200mm Lovell BU-48 lantern" many of the same lanterns have "USLHS" (United States Lighthouse Service) embossed on them, but then some such as yours has "USCG" embossed on them for the "United States Coast Guard". They all seem to be from the early 1900s to around 1939 in the gas version but then they were converted to electric and used up to around 1970s for use on piers, buoys etc.

Many of the ones found for sale were "cleaned" but don't sell for premium prices, the ones that sell for the most money have a nice clean but original finish.

That being said the ones you find for sale, the price listed is what they hope to get for them..but not usually what they end up selling for.

Depends on your customer. Some like the original patina, some would rather have a restored-to-the-max one.
