I keep finding these darn things on my beach hunts.

I'm guessing they are aluminum, but how do they get in this form? This beach allows fires and there is a lot of fire related junk, half burnt logs, bad targets like nails from pallets, etc. I'm guessing people chuck their beer cans into the fire and these blobs are what's left. Unfortunately, I find them a lot. I find them mostly in the surf and on the edge of the surf too which seems kinda weird because the fires are up further on the beach, well above high tide line.

A couple pics....

Gather up a 100 pounds of it and you'll have enough to buy a dinner for 2 at Denny's.

You guessed exactly what they are by guessing melted beer cans.AKA fire nuggets.

Thanks everyone.
Thanks for the link vpnavy. I figured someone has asked this question before.

Aluminum is ~$1.70/lb here, so they'll go into the aluminum can pile.

Up North we call that an aluminum hatch. Better than a mosquito hatch!

In Oregon they are called Budweiser nuggets. You want to stay away from where they are running ATV's and camping. Evenings they build huge fires, drink bud, throw the empties in the fire, then later blast through the fire spot with their ATV, and blow those Bud nuggets all over the place. The detector loves them, and it's a real pain in the neck when that's all you can find.

The scrap yard wont give you aluminum can price, they will give you scrap aluminum big difference in price.
