what are the major factors for depth

what is the combination of factors that determine maxium depth detection is it dectector+mositure+halo effect+length of time in ground thanks

There are a lot of factors affecting depth. You listed a few plus minerals, trash, EMI, proper gound balance, and even the user. Im not sure about that halo effect since it mostly affects ferrious metals when your talking bleading into the soil.

silly brand wars If it weren't for Bounty Hunter I would probably
never got into metal detecting

Damn Jim how about battery charge...thanks I almost forgot to charge my spare battery pack...I know the one in detector has to be down to last hour...so glad you mentioned it.

I can tell you a good one. Back in about 1978 I bought a brand new Garrett Deep Seeker for around $650.00 and my sister found a low end Bounty hunter at the flea market. I think she paid around $20.00 for it. She did as well as I did. Her Bounty Hunter was a comparable machine I guess even though it didn't have all the bells and whistles mine did.

By far the biggest factor affecting depth is mineralization. Some sites I detect you loose 50% of your depth capacity. Fortunately these sites are not that common here in Ohio.

The next most significant is the user/detector combo. Someone using a DFX with the stock "Coins" program will get a lot less depth than an experienced ACE 250 user.
