dathvick, I can only give you my point of view. I assume you dont have any information that there is anything buried on the property! So I have one word for you. = RESEARCH! ---- Looks like a will be a big problem with grass once it starts to grow. you may have to mow before swinging a locator. ---- But if it was me I would check the history of place before I would give it to much thought. I'd try and find out at Courthouse of the county who owned the place in past. If they live there full time, and what other property they may have owned. like 2 rooms isn't much of a place to live, for a hermit maybe? that would be a point in your favor. Then check history of the person. = income? Or if you find it was a getaway cabin for someone. 2 point for you. If person was of means they may have put a Cache there? Check the wills of all owners that live there for leads. If the research dont give you reason to bear down on the place I wouldn't spend to much time on it. I would hope to find it to be a hunting cabin for someone. There has been big bucks found such places. Remember its 90% research.

All that will work, but I would just go ahead and cut the grass and start swinging the detector. Research can only take you so far... maybe it was only visted one weekend a year by people, but if on one of those weekends some 12 year old kid buried his 1.00 worth of change in 1912........

The best places to look are near sidewalks, or anywhere that people would have walked alot. But...anywhere that people have ever gone has potential for coins. And if there are caches, they are likely to be out of the way. In short: if you have time, look EVERYWHERE.

Mow that grass first!

Find the oldest person in town that has lived there all their lives and ask them about the history of the place.
And make sure you visit them at least once more, Because after youve talked to them once they tend to think of other interesting things around the area. Feedstore or place where the old guys still hang out.

Cahce hunting authorities will tell you that you have a 25%-5-% chance to find a cache at any given domain. However shot gunning is not my idea of a good habit. Unless that is your thing. Meaning I'd look for coins and perhaps from this forum learn the better spots to look for a cache. But leads are where its at for cache hunting. You have to begin with a solid lead to spend the time it take s to search.

well 1st thing i would do is check all the rafters in the house, look for loose boards in the floor see if theres a dirtfloor basement, those are prime spots, then all around the house close, people plant flowers around the house and old mason jars are easily planted too, run your metal detector along the rafters too may find the unseen, also look for any signs of old garages and sheds, check foundations for anomilies,Good luck tammahawk :D

Check around the doorways of course, and a straight path to the outhouse if you can tell where that was. Try looking at the trees themselves for places that look like they may have had a clothes line tied to them for many years. If you find two trees with strange humped up rings around them, search a straight line between them. Upside down clothes lose coins even faster than right side up! You can also look for the same ring type markings on the branch of a large tree to determine if an old swing might have been tied there, check directly beneath those marks if found.

At this point in the game, I would hunt the place during the day and do a little research in the off hours. You already know of the location so that's half the research already. I wouldn't be able to pass up a place like this even if I couldn't find anything promising in the research. Only one way to be sure!

This place was a family home, not a hunting cabin or weekend retreat. It has a concrete storm cellar built into the side of a hill (I will try to get pictures this weekend when I am out there). The storm cellar is big enough to hold 12 people, I can't see building this if it is only going to be used on weekends or part time. The nearest paved road is about 1.5 miles away. Looking at topo maps there was not another house anywhere around this place. The nearest house was out on the paved road about 1.5 miles away. From what I understand this place was owned by the owner of the 1000+ acres around this place (I now own 10 of these acres about 1/4 mile away) so this guy had money. The nearest town (bank) was just about 10 miles away. I will be out there this coming weekend and the person I bought my property from will be out there also, I will ask him what he knows of the history and also the name of the individual who he bought the land from. I am sure I will not have any problems tracking down the history of the house once I get a name.

Sounds like a very potential site, good luck and keep us posted!!!

I was trying to see if that's a fireplace in the back? If so, I have heard of cache's being found in loose bricks of the fireplace. Good place to look.
Another possibility is go into the main bedroom and look out the window. If a cache is buried outside, I have heard of them being located within eyesite of the bedroom window. (makes sense to me). Look through the window for a landmark of some sort. If your just going to attack the yard without any knowledge of a cache, I would start from that bedroom window and work away from it, keeping it directly behind you as you walk away. Also, any type of landmark would definately be a place to search, such as a "large" tree (which indicates it's been on the property for a long time), under rocks that may have been placed as a marker. It's nice you have permission to hunt at your convenience, leave no stone unturned and not an inch of dirt undetected.
Good luck, keep us updated.
