So far this month, the weather and my work schedule have NOT played well together. Today started with more rain and I thought it would be shot too. But it finally cleared so I went out!
It was about a 2 hour hunt but a GREAT two hours!
One my first coins was this unknown date Seated liberty dime! It kind of looks like 1888 or 1889. The last two numbers both have round tops.
A few minutes later I found this pin. After cleaning it up and researching it, it's a 10K Fraternal Order of Eagles pin. FIRST GOLD of 2013!!! It looks like it had a brass or copper screw-back which has disintegrated and some green patina had bled around the front but it should clean off. The pin itself has no corrosion which was my first clue during cleaning that it was gold.
Also found was an Enid Trolley token. It's still pretty cruddy but I hope to clean it better. This is the first one of these I have ever found.
In all there were a lot of great finds for 2 hours. ZERO modern coins and ZERO modern trash. The total finds for today:
10K FOE pin
gold gilt button
gold plated costume jewelry
1 mil OK tax token
unmarked button
SPALDING denim jeans/overalls button
heart shaped padlock
Enid Trolley token
3 unkown date wheats
2 "V" nickels; unknown and 1907
4 Indian Heads; 2 unkown, 1906 and 1907
and lastly but NOT least, and unknown date seated dime.
So far everything has had only a water and tooth-brush cleaning. I plan on using some electrolysis and other methods to clean these up better.
