Found this in a box of rocks I got from the daughter of a deceased Rock Collector, he also did some lapidary work as a hobby.
I know it relates to the West Wall Fortifications we usually refer to the Siegfried Line of the Germans on the French Border. A search online shows many rings with WestWall and 1939-40 cast in metal on the ring. Also a bunch of Rings with a cut stone mounted on a ring with the aforementioned information.
The cut stone rings I have seen are red or blue stones, but mine is Black. Another difference is that there are many variations of the theme, mine has an artillery piece, others seem to show bunkers.
Is there any particular importance to it being a black stone, or are the variations just individual soldiers and construction people have rings made to their specifications to commemorate their involvement with the creation of Germany's bastion?
