As requested I reposted these total finds together over several hunts on a friends farmland in Idaho. They are from private land adjoining a sprawling 2 day battle site. I am in the process of combining all my finds and displaying them. Let me know if you want close ups of anything.

Pretty good haul. How many days did it take to find those? Thanks for posting!

I notice the harmonica reed plate in the wooden box. That is larger than most I have seen. Can you tell me how many reed holes it has? I’m guessing around 20.
Thanks

The first time I went was in summer and the ground was like concrete, so it was slow going. I had a couple of days detecting until noon or so. The next time was in spring and it was a lot better. I had several days to spread out and really search. There is a lot of land to still left to go over.

Sorry for the late replies. I’m at work, so I’ll have to look when I get home, but 20 looks pretty close.

A lot of stories could be told about those finds.
I know! It was a while back when I first went there and I had done my research on the area. I had talked to our friend that owns the land and he said that there probably wasn’t anything there but I was welcome to look. I had just gotten my ATpro so I was new to MDing and hadn’t found anything old yet. I was going along and found a couple pieces of fence wire. Then I get this 70 signal down in this shallow draw and I just had a feeling that it was something good. I dug it carefully in the hard dirt by literally scraping the dirt with an hand shovel and a pocket knife and it was a dropped 45-70 cartridge. I just sat there a minute and looked at it amazed that I had actually found something and that the last person to touch it was a US cavalryman fighting for his life. There were several more in that spot along with some fired casings. It must have been a miserable place to fight, not a bit of cover, water, or shade.

I checked, it has 20 holes.
