I had a really fun hunt this weekend. I went back to a farm that has been in a family since the mid 1800s. That alone is amazing. The current house dates from 1900. Anyway, I had hunted this place before with my very first detector. Didn't get much as the depth on it was bad. Went back with the AT. Hit the side yard and was pretty disappointed. Not even a wheatie! I started moving around to the front and got a large penny signal. I mean, penny on the Vdi, but could tell that it was waaaay too big. I dug it anyway b/se of the age of the place. Out comes this very cool, intact harmonica. Says "Lover" on the front in big letters. Also has patent numbers on the back. I'll have to look that up later.

So, I started working the front area and get a very nice high tone. Dig down and man was I excited to see a 1903 barber quarter come out! My first barber. Now I slow down and really start working the grid. As I move toward the fenceline I get another high tone. Dig down, trying to be careful but adrenaline started kicking. Out comes my first barber dime. Man, I was high as a kite on that. I went on gridding for about another 30 minutes with nothing to show. I stopped about half way toward the road and went back to the area where I found the other silvers. I got a very strange high tone signal. Had to dig it. Out comes some iron and lookie there, another barber quarter. Yep, high as a kite again.

There is strong evidence of an earlier house back from the current one. I decided to head back to that area and got a cool copper ring. It's bent really badly, but I think it's very cool.

Metal Magnet.... is there a mint mark on the back of the 1896 quarter?? Pretty sure thats a key date for the series... Nice tryfecta!!

I found that exact same harmonica in the yard of my house which was built in the late 1890s. Nice Finds! :icon_thumright:

If that 1896 has an "S" on it, that is the big boy for that series. Easily a $400-$500 coin in that condition and that is on the conservative side.... :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

Sweet finds. I don't believe I have ever snagged 3 barbers in one hunt yet. Great job!!!
