Tried some different settings on the F75+, and squeaked out these finds today. They are getting harder to find. I checked my book on the little mini three ringer, and got the caliper out, and it’s a .28 Missouri state guard bullet. I’ve found several .69 cal bullets in this yard, along with .58 cal, but this has to beat them all. Checked the history of the area I am in, and for sure the dang Missouri state guard was stationed here at one time. I’ve talked to the owner of the empty lot, and may be purchasing it off him. Also the merc came from the last site which has a lot more potential. Very little in the way of trash compared to the torn down house. Adjustments.webp

Ive recently gone back to 2L on the F75 for this type of site. Ive found things Ive missed with 3 tone and DP. I even had a salt water beach hunt recently with 2L and the first 3 or 4 bars of iron discrimmed out. Sure it still falses but you dont hear it.

Congrats on the finds. Twenty eight caliber in the Civil War? Learn something new everyday.

Great find! I am a gun collector and the only .28 Civil War weapon I can think of is the Colt Model 1855. It was never very popular since it was a small gun and rather under-powered. It was favored by some as a back-up gun; I have seen a picture of Custer holding one.
A pretty unusual bullet, to be sure!

Gun collector, and work on them as well, and where it was found was less than 1/4 mile away from the original Fort Smith Garrison, I’ve found I don’t know how many Minie Balls, but also other round balls, coins, and this
