Hit a section of a park that is riddled with pulltab signals and decided to dig them in an attempt to find some gold jewelry. It's a good thing that pulltabs are not magnetic because the earth would have shifted on its axis today due to the amount I removed. Anyway, I'm digging folded over pulltabs, just the ring from pulltabs and just the tabs alone. These all read differently on the E-TRAC.

The tabs only reads as a 12-11 and a nickel is a 12-13. I got a 12-13 next to a 12-11 and knew I had to dig. The 12-13 was down 8" and I saw the nickel stuck in the bottom of the plug and it wasn't the typical dark brown color. I knew right away I had a silver nickel. It's a 1942 P!

It was right next to the tab from a pulltab.

I also found what was left to an unfired 12 gauge shotgun shell. Didn't detect any of the BBs but this one looks old.

No Gold today but had a great time. The weather was cooler and no mosquitos, Bonus!

I also find that there is a wide range for pull tabs, pull rings and parts there of. not just on my deus but on the At Gold as well. There are also differences in what alloys were used in each kind and can be the same as zincoids and memorials in some cases. i can only guess that an IH might fall in this same range. So I dig them all anyways, especially in certain areas(okay most areas). We have a long stretch that we hit the pull tabs and rings pretty hard for a while and then go elsewhere for a break from them. congrats on your find

Nice find, congratulations! :occasion14:

Good job Steve . Hey how about swinging some coilage this weekend!!!!!!

Cool war nickel....digging them tabs gets rough some times...Congrats !!

Nice nickel!! Awesome!

Way to go! 😁 I found my first war nickel back in '82 or '83...then nothing. UNTIL...this past month. I've pulled FIVE over the past 3-4 weeks. 3 in one day! Four have been '43P and one was a '44.

Also in northern Illinois and I dig quite a few silver nickels in my travels. Seems to be a fairly common find considering they were only produced for a short run. Happy hunting in the rich black soil of Illinois.

Nice score on the silver nickel. Love my shiny nickels.:icon_thumright:
