thanks for the reminder... it is getting to that time of year and in some places it has apparently arrived already!

Had a friend bit by a tick and he developed some sort of DNA problem and eventually (over seven years) died from it. This was back in the 70's when DNA understanding was pretty basic.

I owned 80 acres in Missouri that was all woods and mostly oak trees. you could hear the ticks falling from the trees onto the dry oak leaves on the ground. As the ticks detected heat from the human body they would release their hold to fall onto the heat. It made a ticking sound as the tick hit the leaves so maybe that is where the name "tick" came from... i don't know this for a fact though. It did make a tick... tick... tick sound as hundreds of them would fall.

Sanat, I'm wondering if the sound you heard falling from the oak trees wasn't caterpillar droppings. About 15 years ago we had an infestation of oak leaf rollers in our woods and it sounded like it was raining from all of the droppings. I don't think you would hear a tick hit the leaves since they are so light.

ewwwwww!! I hate ticks!! DEET....don't forget it next time! lol So are the ticks the only finds you got?

Timely and helpful reminder!
