Went out fishing. It was OK , just a lot of small fish. My neck and shoulders have been killing me lately, so I have to take breaks from casting , as I fly fish, so I took a little walk on the gravel bars and spotted the big orange agate from 20 feet or so away! Started looking for more and found a nice colorful piece of agatized wood. Felt like it was a good day! I would have done "insitu", but I left my phone in the truck, so I had to take them on the hood when I got back to the truck. If you "click" the pic for a closer view, you can see a little bit of fortification in the agate. (I think that is what it is called when it is banded?)

Nice agate and you are correct. It is called fortification when it exhibits concentric banding from the outside in usually roughly following the shape of the agate, like yours shows. How big is it? When you find an agate while fishing, does the size of the agate increase every time you tell the story about finding it? ;)

LOL! Maybe........
I didn't think to take a prospective pic, I'll try and do that when I get home. It's maybe 4 inches long and about 2-2&1/2 inches in diameter. I have found little agates around 1/2" in this area, but nothing as big as this one!
