But unfortunately I found more trash than anything else this time. One thing is for sure, I dug up every solid target I came across. Which is good practice I think. By the way, those two rusty crusty nails were found else where. Is there anyway to judge the age by the rust buildup? They might be old, but I don't know for sure.

I also started to search a church parking lot near dusk, and I even dug one single target, but was quickly told to leave by a neighbor across the street. He said the church was private property??!! I was under the thinking that church parking lots are public property?? I was nice about it and even explained that I clean up the grounds by picking up all the trash that I found, but he wouldn't hear it. Anyway, I hesitatingly left, the sun was going down anyway..... Maybe he thought I'd wreck the grass in the parking lot, or he was perhaps the type of person who is just looking for battles....I thought about giving him the battle he was looking for, but decided it wasn't worth it. Either way... I didn't really like him. Never had a person tell me to leave a church parking lot before. :(

Though he may have overreacted, church property is not public property. Always ask for permission before you detect areas like that.

Bingo

Well, at least I know that now.... Perhaps I may have been confused, I used to search all kinds of Churches in my M.D. past. I never had any problems what so ever...But there was a lapse from 1993 to about a month ago.... I didn't own a detector during the long lapse there.

I was recently searching a different Church a few weeks ago. There was a police officer parked in the Church lot....He looked at me, I looked at him... He never stopped me. so I assumed that I was not doing anything wrong. It really seems to me that the M.D. laws are extremely grey. It's like your ok unless someone complains. If I was in the wrong I'd think this cop I saw would've said something. Anyway, I will be more careful, thanks for the info folks.... Last thing I want is trouble.

Your beach finds look terribly similar to the ones I found yesterday! :-\

Oh I forgot Seger98-

I also found a whole wine bottle buried about six inches in the sand (the cheap kind with a metal top, not cork), with about two inches of wine left, and a juice box about the same depth... However I dropped those in the trash bin.

Yea, sort of a non productive couple of hours at the beach. Heh.

The police will more than likely not say or do anything unless somebody complains. Then they would have to.Next time try asking permission from someone HIGHER UP at the church. :angel12: ha ha.

Nothing gray about it at all. He didn't have a complaint of you trespassing. Had the pastor come out and said, Officer, this guy doesn't belong here, it could've ended differently. The cop did the right thing... although he COULD have questioned whether you had permission to be there. Chances are, he had something else going on. This is no different than an officer of the law seeing someone fishing. He may or may not stop to see if they have a fishing license. Just depends.

What is gray about not hunting where you shouldn't be? If you don't know if you can hunt a certain spot, then check! Simple! Remember, the courts will hold that ignorance of the law is NO excuse!

Thats the thrill about beach hunting you dig everything, and anything and hope for the best.
Next time you might hit it big. I can't wait to go myself, everything is frozen solid in my town.

Boy that was a lot of digging. When I go to the beach I dig everything also. Don't want to pass up that little gold ring. Better luck nice time...Matt
