last month in saltwater on cape cod
waters weren't ideal but made the best of it
had a hard time finding the old pilings area with visibility not being the greatest -
2nd target was a large hit - I clicked from all metal to ID mode to see if it was large iron or something worth digging
ID went low -mid then high with each sweep over it - sometimes that means more than one object - so I started scooping
bout a foot down I hit an old brick - old bricks from up here - early ones - have metal in them and go off like silver dimes
I removed it - signal was bigger than that - scooped down another 6 inches and got a conglomerate - ended up being an old pocket knife
rechecked hole and got another signal was surprised to see large silver disc in my scoop - walking liberty half
pays to dig it all -
surprise for the day (well there were 2) - got a faint signal in the rocks that were under where the wharf would have been
this is where I got 2 Large cents last month - saw a copper disc and I got excited - thought it might be a half cent but then thought 2 cent piece
bingo - 2 center - my first from saltwater
not to long after I got another nice signal not to far from what was left from the wharf pilings and came up with another old coin - it was black and I swiped with my thumb
and saw one cent and then noticed its thickness - oh yea - a fatty ...1863 and it came out in beautiful shape - it was XF when lost
I did get an old gold band - a older silver ring - brass old bracelet
keepers I ended up with
1942 walk lib half
1941 sil. quarter
1943 sil.quarter
1939 merc
1936 merc
1946 sil.Roos.
1945-P sil. nickel
Buffalo nickel
2 cent piece
1863 IH penny
got an old brass wedding band (probably form a fisherman working on the wharf)
more bronze nails/spikes ...more lead fishing net weights ...some brass sail grommets and a large rosette
amongst other old stuff
looking forward to going back - there's a lot of large iron out there - can be tough to work
but I know there are more goodies under and next to some of the junk
hoping to get some period silver eventually
I know 2c is rough but still cool for me to find in the water -have gotten good ones on land
but finding this one and another fatty (3rd one from there) gives hope for what other oldies may be out there

after light cleaning

junk minus larger conglomerates

HEY THERE CASPER TELL ME WHAT WERE YOU REALLY AFTER .WAS IT SILVER OR GOLD HIDING IN THAT WATER HOLE , OR SOMETHING ON YOUR MIND THAT WOULD POST AS A BANNER FIND. THE RINGS ARE NICE.

Looks like you're dialled in on the good stuff amongst the brick and trash, well done once again and worthy of another return hunt.

Very well done. That is amazing set of coins... you have a little bit of everything. Impressive.

the ring in my palm with coins is gold - ring in first pic next to the gold band - is brass and I believe it might be
around 100+ yrs old
I think it might have belonged to a wharf worker - it was out as far as I could go at low tide

Im in 5-6 feet of water at low tide (mask & snorkel)
- hunting saltwater spot that is a small beach now but was site of a wharf in the mid 1800s into the 1900s
they used small row boats and schooners and mostly fished with nets here

Very nice assortment of finds, why don't you use your Hooka rig there?

Cant elaborate - would give spot away to others - but would need a helicopter to get my hookah in there

Congrats on the great finds- quite a haul!!

I think I would be magnet fishing there too.
Do at least some cleaning up in the area. So you have less crap to dig through.
Just a thought

Hit
I hunt in all metal and try and take as much out as I can - Im up to my chin+ out kinda of far
and a lot of the junk is from hand sized to as big as a man hole cover - so not as easy as it sounds taking it all out

There are spots I go to try and find fresh gold drops - and places I go for old silver & gold
this place has some gold - ive pulled a lot of silver (especially for a small spot and having a dozen or so guys that live near by) and relics
Im 2 1/2 hrs from this spot so I cant hit here everyday or even every weekend
I hit here a few yrs ago and got a gold ring right off the bat and a few older silver rings and I got a few green wheat pennies so next time there I figured there might
be some silver out there - I was right - I found 2 merc dimes and older silver ring and an old gold signet - so next time I worked slow and went for faint tones and started to come up with old class rings and more silver - then old coins - seated dime ,shield nickel IH pennies - I started to find old bronze ship nails and spikes and other relics
I have been in talks with the maritime museum out there and will be putting a detecting display on loan to them with relics, coins and some gold from the 1800s found in the waters out there- so now everytime out to that particular spot - whatever its made of - Im looking for something to add to collection

cleaning house! way to go! nice haul
