A 1905 novelty??
An embossed lady Liberty(inscription on headband seems to partially say Liberty).
The reverse side says United States of America•CENTS• ,...a silver layer is on both sides but not on the edge.(It doesn't seem like a plating)..more like an actual layer. Same size as an American nickel. The patina leads me to believe it is possibly quite old perhaps from 1905. Thank you in advance for any help Id'ing this(couldn't find any images online)

It’s a liberty nickel, also known as a v nickel

as CoinFetcher stated, it's made from a V nickel. The process is made with two dies to punch a very high relief design into the coin, known as Repousse punch or more commonly called a 'pop out' coin. I've seen just about all denominations of coins done this way but I would say dimes are the most common. Somewhat hard to date because they became popular around the time your coin is dated, but the dies can still be bought today. I like to think that the best way to date them to a general time period would be to look at it from the point that the coin used was probably commonly in circulation at the time. Using that theory, I would assume it was punched somewhere probably between 1905 to 1915 perhaps

I knew I'd seen this before on TNet, can't remember what my wife said 2 minutes ago though, but I remembered this, LOL.

Lots of good information on the post from 2011.

Also the term used for the coins is Repousee Coins (aka Push Outs or Pop Outs).

ETA: I see Jewlerguy was posting at the same time I was and beat me to the punch, and posted the same information.
