Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. I'm glad that the silver coin streak is over with so I can relax and enjoy detecting without all the pressure. I did get a couple of nice consolation prizes though for what is most likely my last hunt for the year.
I headed out early this morning and went back to where I found the Barber on the last hunt to see if I could find another one. That didn't happened so I worked the grassy area between the curb and sidewalk on the vacant lot across the street. I dug some wheat pennies and a Buffalo nickel.
I hit another old site and popped a sterling silver spoon, but still no silver coins. So I headed out to look for another site. While driving though an old part of town I spotted a elderly man raking leaves. I decided to turn around and see if I could get permission to detect his yard. After introducing myself and some chit chat, I popped the question and got a yes. He also told me that the owned the home next door and for me to detect that one as well. Both homes were built in 1920.
After going over each front yard toughly I only managed to find a few clad coins and couple of wheat pennies. This just was not my day. I shifted my attention to the grassy area between the curb and sidewalk. On the last and final grid search pattern I got a loud audio signal and a VDI number of 57. Too low to be a zinc penny, so I thought maybe a Indian head penny. After digging down about 7 inches I unearthed a 8.52 gram 14k gold wedding band. Now that did make my day, so I headed for the house. I was using my F75DST - DE Mode, Sensitivity 75, Discrimination 0, Tones 4H, GB 68.
This was my 95th hunt for the year and my grand total for silver coins this year is 252. That's averaging a little over 2.5 silver coins per hunt.
I'll total all my gold and silver rings and other jewelry at the end of the year.
