My wife came out of the house and saw the tail hanging out of the frame box on our roof... I went on the roof to try to get him out and tore him in half...
The rest as they say is still inside my eves somewhere but clearly won't live because I tore him in half..
but trying to ID with the half we got...
Thanks in advance...
BTW I am in Charlotte NC ... if you want to know an area...

Looks like a corn snake to me. Harmless. Some even keep them as pets. Here's an example intact one (not my image, found online).

Its sad, I told the wife to let it be... it was in a place we could not get to.. but she insisted that she wouldn't sleep in the house knowing this was in the house with her..
I DON"T KILL SNAKES IF AT ALL POSSIBLE !!!
but this one is dead for sure, because his guts were hanging out from where I broke him in half... >:( :crybaby2:

I'm the same, but I also would have reacted the same if my wife had insisted. Don't beat yourself up about it.

They're non-venomous and keep down the rat and mice population.
Agreed.

The only time I intentionally kill a snake is if it's a venomous snake that's too close to the house (because of the risk to the animals, the kids, and the grandkids). Otherwise they are free to come and go as they please. We've even had a few in the house (no clue how they get inside, but sometimes they do). We just take them outside and let them go.
