Weird Token?

found this today at a house. All it says is 272 and then Transfer below it. Any ideas what it could of been used for?

looking online, there is a car part called a transfer case, and 272 is one of the kinds of transfer cases. so maybe some sort of cap off an older one of those?

perhaps someone with some more knowledge can chime in lol
