I found this necklace many years ago in a historical area about 1 foot under. The string looks like it's coated with some sort of plastic, yet it's very primitive looking. I managed to get it out in one piece. It was in the roots of a tree. I was told it was hammered lead. It's an unusual design though. Thought I would post it, has anybody seen anything like it before?
Thanks.

Re: Weird Necklace, Looks Primitive

The first picture looks like the lips are sewn shut like you see headshrinkers do in the movies. Still pretty neat, what part of the country did you find it in?

Voodoo necklace?
One foot down is either old, or deeply buried -from what I have learned on this site.
My guess is someone buried it, fairly recently.
A magic spell to (hopefully?) keep someone quiet?
Your guess will probably be better than mine ::)

I agree with trikikiwi - modern voodoo gris-gris buried there to draw strength from the tree.
