weird iron object, war related or not?

Found at a site where civil war gun parts and bullets have been found. Looks too well made to be barbwire, so I wanted to see what you guys thought. Thanks in advance!

At first glance, I thought it might be a friction primer wire, but I don't think that is what it is.
