Re: Weird Hammer

You have a unique tool there. I have a friend who deals in antique tools, and I have never seen one like that in his stock. Some of the drill combos like that are quite valuable.

Re: Weird Hammer

This thing is very frustrating to search the net for, all I find are Hammer Drills, not hammers that have a drill.

That's exactly whats been happening to me , for the last 3 days . I plan on cleaning it with some metal polish . But I was hoping to get an ID first . Sometimes stuff looses value after a good cleaning , but there could be a clue under the tarnish .

Re: Weird Hammer

Yep, since it is patented I tried doing the google patent search thinking that might help. Umm no there was 40+ pages of things. Perhaps if there is a better name for what this thing is would help.

a hammerdrill :D :D :D

lol....and a cordless at that!

I wonder if it's some sort of a riviting hammer (hence the bits), though the head more resembles that of a tack hammer?? I've never seen anything like it.

Could you give us some information on where you found it?
I found it out in the shed in our old farmhouse we recently bought . It was under a work bench behind a pile of rusty paint cans .

Re: Weird Hammer

Im guessing its a horse tacking tool, drills for drilling out the hole for the nails in the hoof to hold horse shoes, hammer for the shoe nails, other end of hammer for pulling shoe nails to pull old shoe nails

Re: Weird Hammer

Very unique hammer/drill combination! 8) Could be worth some bucks. I clean the rust off of all my vintage tools, even using a wire brush wheel, and then I oil them up with Linseed oil before I sell on e-Bay. I know they say not to clean tools, but I get more money if I clean them. It also makes for a better picture.
Clean any dirt and rust but do not scrape off any paint. I disassemble, clean in a bucket of soapy water, I use a wire wheel for bare metal, let parts dry in the sun COMPLETELY, often using q-tips for holes, and oil everything with linseed oil before reassembly. Works for me.
